How Long Will it Take Me to Get to Montauk?

“How long will it take me to get to Montauk?”

This is my favorite Montauk question.

And here’s my favorite Montauk answer:

“I dunno... how fast can you pedal a bike?”

Having said that, here’s a ROUGH guide to when you can expect to arrive in Montauk.

25-Mile Route:

Fast rider: 11:30 a.m.

Relaxed rider: 2:30 p.m.

50-Mile Route

Fast rider: 12:15 p.m.

Relaxed rider: 4:00 p.m.

73-Mile Route:

Fast rider: 12:30 p.m.

Relaxed rider: 6:00 p.m.

108-Mile Route:

Fast rider: 11:00 a.m.

Relaxed rider: 6:00 p.m.

150-mile Route:

Fast rider: 12:30 p.m.

Relaxed rider: 6:00 p.m.

“Where did you come up with such a ridiculous range of times?”

Fair question.  It’s based loosely on this theory:

A fast (VERY fast) rider is pedaling at 20 mph, and barely stops at all at our rest stops.

A relaxed (VERY relaxed) rider is pedaling at 10 mph, and spends about an hour at each rest stop.

Don’t forget that for reasons far too dull to explain here, not everyone starts pedaling at the same time, which helps explain the discrepancies in times, above.   Details on start times can be found here. Clear as mud?  You bet!

We ensure that ALL riders reach the finish line no later than 6:00 p.m., either by pedaling or by getting a lift in one of our support vehicles.
